Huawei's Mate 9 begins update to Android 8.0 Oreo

There is no doubt about it; Android has a problem when it comes to updates. While it has been persistent for years now, it has become even more alarming in recent times, with the latest data showing that only 0.3% of devices are on Google"s Android 8.0 Oreo a few months after release. While Huawei hasn"t been the best with updates for its Mate 9, the firm luckily stated a couple months back that it would begin testing Android 8.0 Oreo on the smartphone.

As of today, it looks like the official update is now rolling out to supported handsets, bringing a wealth of new features. While the Mate 9 currently runs Android 7.0 with EMUI 5, the updated version will take it to Android 8.0 running EMUI 8.0. This will include numerous changes to the core OS by Google but will also offer customizations from Huawei as well.

The update looks to be hitting China so if you aren"t seeing it on your unit don"t be alarmed. We have checked our unit and the update doesn"t look to be available in the United States, nor can it be found using the HiCare app.
