Earlier this year Sega announced that the upcoming Amplitude Studios-developed 4X historical strategy game Humankind would be missing its 2020 launch. Today the company unveiled a new launch window fans can look forward to, with Humankind now slated to release across Windows, macOS, and Stadia in April 2021.
In addition to the familiar gameplay aspects of other 4X games, this turn-based title offers a unique civilization building experience that evolves the player"s faction through the eras, from ancient to the modern age, by combining with other cultures.
The developer is offering Google Stadia users an opportunity to demo a slice of the game early. A 100-turn gameplay scenario is available now on Stadia to play until October 28.
Moreover, offering behind-the-scenes looks at the game"s development, a video focusing on the technologies being utilized to "achieve high frame rates and low build times" in Unity as well as a developer chat with Amplitude Studios" lead 3D developer Tim Raulin and creative director Romain de Waubert are now available as well.
Humankind pre-orders have gone live across Steam, Epic Games Store, Stadia, and retail stores, with all platforms and digital stores receiving the game simultaneously in April. There is also a Digital Deluxe edition for pre-order that adds on some extra goodies, including an in-game Notre-Dame pack - coming with the wonder, narrative events, and more - alongside the official soundtrack and a PDF containing the unit and tech trees.
