Hundreds of BTopenworld"s ADSL customers had their service cut off this week because of a clerical error by the telecom giant"s broadband arm.
The punters had their connection disconnected on and around New Year"s Eve, while still more received unexpected letters informing them that their contract was to be curtailed.
A BTopenworld spokesman told us that the accounts of approx. 200 people were cut off due to a system error affecting businesses and individuals who requested changes to their service. The majority of those affected were business customers using higher-speed broadband connections, he added.
Work restoring services has begun and anyone disconnected by mistake should have their services restored within five days, the company says.
BTopenworld is contacting those affected by its error to apologise for the inconvenience caused. Compensation for loss of service will be negotiated on an individual basis, it says.
BTopenworld also says it is to put processes in place to prevent the creation of rogue work orders in future.
