Microsoft has just released its fourth iteration of IE 10 which can be downloaded here. The latest platform preview brings with it even more support for HTML 5 as posted on the IE blog.
Microsoft is fully embracing HTML 5 and it is encouraging developers to start working with the new technology. Microsoft has even put together an IE 10 developers guide which you can read about here.
With this fourth Platform Preview, developers can start working with more site-ready HTML5 technologies. Here are a few highlights:
- Cross-Origin Resource Sharing (CORS) for safe use of XMLHttpRequest across domains.
- File API Writer support for blobBuilder allowing manipulation of large binary objects in script in the browser.
- Support for JavaScript typed arrays for efficient storage and manipulation of typed
- user-select property to control how end-users select elements in a Web page or application.
- Support for HTML5 video text captioning, including time-code, placement, and captioning file formats
The video below also shows the new hardware acceleration that will be shipping with IE 10.
Microsoft runs through several demos in the IE 10 platform preview video. They show off how IE 10 can handle HTML 5 much better than Chrome, but to be fair, we can"t quite call it a level playing field until IE 10 is published for general consumption.
Microsoft is working hard to bring IE 10 with all of the support for HTML 5 that one could desire. While there is no confirmed ship date for IE 10, with each new platform preview, we move one step closer to the product shipping.
