Internet Explorer 8 is turning three years old today and if you missed our look back at all the previous version of IE, you can view that here. Currently, IE8 has around a 16% of the market according to Pingdom.com which aggregated the content from Stat Counter for the graphic you see above.
As with nearly every version of IE, Microsoft focused on updating the security features, efficiency for daily tasks and of course enhanced enterprise support for the platform.
An interesting fact about IE8 was that when it was launched, web slices, which were a new feature for the platform, was endorsed by Dolly Parton.
As the browser is now three years old, you can bet that Microsoft wants everyone to upgrade to IE9 or better yet, IE10 when that platform launches in the coming months.
While we know that not everyone has the ability to upgrade to the latest software, we are looking at you Enterprise users, using the latest software is typically a good habit as it generally provides the most robust security features to help protect the end user.
