While we patiently wait for Microsoft to roll out a beta version of their unified Skype messaging experience "before the end of the summer", a Russian website has managed to get a hold of what looks like the new Skype unified experience for Windows 10 Mobile.
As you may already know, the Skype app for Windows 8 was disabled with the release of Windows 10, forcing people to instead switch to the desktop app to continue to use the service.
The screenshots, which come from Russian website OneTile, claim that the Universal messaging app for Skype is running on Windows 10 Mobile build 10512; they also state that the app is buggy, as you might expect from an unfinished version.
The screenshots look quite a bit different to what we saw last month, but it"s to be expected, seeing as the version previously shown was running on the desktop.
Microsoft will be retiring the standalone Skype app altogether on Windows 10 Mobile, opting instead to create a Skype "experience" with messaging and video apps that work both on the desktop and Mobile. Skype will be integrated with key tasks in these Universal communications apps, allowing users to quickly send messages and make calls without having to open a separate Skype app.
But Microsoft has said that the Skype desktop app will not be discontinued on Windows 10 PCs, remaining as an option for users who prefer all Skype functions in one place.
There"s still no word on when the Skype experience will make it to Windows Insiders, but it could land anytime soon, since Gabe Aul has already teased that he is on build 10532 which is in internal testing right now.
