Initial developer beta of watchOS 5 withdrawn due to update issues

It was just yesterday that Apple held its WWDC 2018 event where it announced the latest major updates to iOS, macOS, watchOS, and tvOS. While many may be most interested in iOS 12 for iPhone and iPad, particularly in the context of older devices, the Cupertino-based company did dive into some of the details around what"s new in watchOS 5. One of the new inclusions, called Competitions, will allow you to challenge your friends when sharing activities.

However, it appears that there have some preliminary issues with watchOS 5 when attempting to update Apple Watches according to a statement on the Apple developer portal:

"Seed 1 of watchOS 5 is temporarily unavailable. We are investigating an issue that occurs while updating. If you’ve experienced any issues, please contact AppleCare."

In the meantime, the company has retracted the availability of the developer configuration file that would be installed on iPhones to enable the download as well as the over-the-air update that would otherwise appear after installing the configuration file.

At present, the full severity of the issue remains unclear but, given that it has directed affected users to contact AppleCare, this could indicate that Apple Watches subjected to the update may have become unusable or suffered from a partial loss of functionality. Apple has also not provided an indication as to when access to the developer build of watchOS 5 will be restored.
