The Nintendo Switch is receiving a new app later this year, which will essentially double the number of apps available on the platform after Hulu was made available late last year. InkyPen is a newly-created subscription service which will provide thousands of comic books for users to read on the go using Nintendo"s console.
The service will cost €7.99/$7.99 per month and offer comics from American and European artists, as well as Japanese manga, and they can be read both in TV and handheld modes. Customers will be able to explore the service"s catalog at will or discover new content through personalized suggestions.
The service will include titles such as Warhammer, Dungeons and Dragons, Transformers, and many others. The service also embraces webcomics, including some of the more popular titles found on the internet.
Despite growing to have a fairly compelling catalog of games so far, apps such as Netflix and YouTube have been notably absent since the console launched early last year. The company has repeatedly said it wants to emphasize the Switch as a gaming device above everything else, but it"s likely that customers would have preferred to see some of the more popular services making their way to the eShop instead.
Regardless, if the idea of reading comics on the Nintendo Switch sounds good to you, you can head to the official InkyPen website, though it only lets you sign up for the newsletter right now. InkyPen is set to launch exclusively on Nintendo"s hybrid in November of this year.
