Instagram emulates '3D Touch' in latest Android update

Instagram has updated their Android app that adds a new layer of interaction. The company has emulated Apple"s "3D Touch" feature and has now incorporated a similar gesture for previewing images.

While Apple"s "3D Touch" requires the proper hardware to make it function, it is possible to emulate some of the interactions that are seen in the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus. In the latest Android update, Instagram has added the ability to long press on a photo and have it pop up a preview window. For the sake of convenience, you can also drag your finger towards the bottom of the image to "like", view a profile or share the previewed image during the same long press.

Naturally, the interaction is a bit different than 3D Touch, but it is a nice added convenience that will no doubt gain more traction as it is implemented in more areas than just the search results. The updated app is available via the Google Play Store (v. 7.13.0) or you can download the APK from the mirror.
