Instagram has just introduced "GIFStickers" for Instagram Stories; this an extension to the already existing "Sticker" option. The feature is powered by GIPHY—popular database for GIFs and animated stickers—allowing users to search and choose from a wide range of animated stickers and place them on top of photos and videos:
Previously, users could only write, draw and add regular stickers to their stories—now, with "GIF Stickers", users can add a bit more style to their creations with these moving images.
"GIF Stickers" is available now in the latest version of Instagram on Android and iOS.
More is in the pipeline for Instagram Stories as the company is also working on another feature. Said to arrive "in the coming weeks," the feature plans on giving users more flexibility when posting images and videos that vary in dimensions.
This should be a welcome addition for those who like to use stories to share pre-taken photos and videos as previously doing so would cut off or zoom into the media if it was too big or small. "pinching to share it in its original dimensions, whether it’s square, portrait or landscape" will now be done, and "any extra room will be filled with a custom color gradient that matches what you’ve shared."
Stories seem to be the main focus behind Instagram recently—no surprise given its rapid growth and success since release. More features can also be expected down the line such as "Type" for Instagram stories.
