Instagram is rolling out a new feature that will recommend content it thinks might be of interest to you at the end of your feed. Called "Suggested Posts", it"s a new way of keeping your eyes glued to the photo and video-sharing app after you"re done scrolling through the recent posts from accounts you follow.
The new feature appears in a new place just below the “You’re All Caught Up” notice, which was announced two years ago. It will display content from accounts similar to the ones you follow and posts akin to the ones you like. In addition, the new destination shows ads alongside those types of content, making it an attractive tool for advertisers (via TechCrunch).
Robby Stein, Instagram"s Director of Product, said of the new feature:
“Our goal is to make it clear when you’re all caught up so you can decide how you want to best use your time. We see people continuing to seek out more posts they’re interested in after catching up with their feeds, so we wanted to learn from that and make it easier to go a little deeper for those who choose to do so.”
Interestingly, its appearance below the “You’re All Caught Up” alert makes it seem like Instagram is toning down its digital well-being initiative. That"s because it seems to throw you into an endless feed of content even after seeing every post in the last two days from people you follow. The new feature is launching worldwide from today.
