Intel"s next high-end chipset, the 975X, will support both NVIDIA"s SLI and ATI"s Crossfire multi-GPU technologies, according to sources. The chipset comes with a built in PCI Express x16 interface, which gives motherboard makers the flexibility to support dual x8 lanes for SLI and Crossfire usage. Intel has recently entered licensing agreements for both technologies with their respective companies.
The 975X will replace Intel"s current 955X chipset as its flagship product, and will cost roughly the same as current 955X prices when it debuts with Intel"s new 65nm dual core processors sometime early next year. This is great news for Intel fans, as more choices can only mean lower prices.
