For a while now, there have been plenty of performance leaks for Intel"s upcoming 12th gen Alder Lake-S flagship SKU dubbed Core i9-12900K. These include Cinebench R23 benchmarks, some gaming performance, and more. Aside from leaks, an official review has also been published by SiSoftware where the 16 core/24 thread Core i9-12900K has been compared against previous-gen Intel parts as well as the Ryzen 9 5900X.
All of this confirms that the Alder Lake-S processors are primed for public release sooner rather than later. While we already had a rumored launch date of November 19, it seems the Rocket Lake-S successor could be arriving even sooner according to a fresh report from VideoCardz.
Apparently, Intel Alder Lake-S would be launching on November 4th and it"s possible that accompanying Z690 motherboards would also be immediately available. The site claims it has verified this information from its own sources after MSI posted about its free upgrade kit program for the LGA1700 socket on which the upcoming Intel Alder Lake-S platform is based.
As shown in the above image, the new kit is available for the various MAG CORELIQUID R and MPG CORELIQUID K coolers and the event lasts until April 30 2022.
On the topic of cooler compatibility, rival AMD may be planning to let its users re-use the same coolers on next-gen Socket AM5 that they have with AM4.
Coming back to Intel, Socket LGA1700 will have lots of new features compared to the previous LGA1200 as it will bring DDR5 DRAM support, PCIe 5.0, aside from just the new socket and processor compatibility. In fact, it is also expected to retain DDR4 compatibility too and there could be separate motherboards for DDR5 and DDR4.
