Intel today announced a low-power-consuming Pentium III processor designed for use in the types of server computers often used in Internet data centers and to serve up Web pages.
Systems based on the combination of the Ultra Low Voltage PentiumĀ® III processor at 700 MHz and IntelĀ® 440GX chipset (which runs at a server-industry-low of 1.1 volts) will include 512 KB of on-die level 2 cache memory and support for PC 100 SDRAM memory.
The processor is produced in high volumes on Intel"s 0.13-micron manufacturing process, an advanced process that enables low voltages for the processor (ranging from 1.1 to 0.95 volts). The chips come in Intel"s uFCBGA package, the latest packaging technology for smaller systems such as high-density servers.
