Intel confirms Celeron price cuts

AS PREDICTED HERE EARLIER prices fell on Intel"s Celeron processors, with its current top end model, the 2.4GHz, falling from $103 to $84. The 2.3GHz Celeron felll from $89 to $79, the 2.2GHz from $83 to $74, while the 2.1GHz fell from $79 to $74.

On June the 25th, Intel is scheduled to introduce a 2.6GHz and a 2.5GHz at $103 and $89 respectively. These prices are for trays of 1,000 microprocessors. This means that Celerons at 2GHz below to 1.7GHz have effectively been phased out.

Intel roadmaps seen by the INQUIRER show that the Celerons, with 128K of cache, will hit 2.70GHz in the fourth quarter, and 2.80GHz in the first quarter of next year. Intel will push frequency speeds above that in the second quarter of next year.
