Intel has unveiled its new Xeon Nehalem-EX processor which comes with 8-cores, 16 threads and 24MB of cache memory. The performance increase brings forth a new model for servers allowing for cheaper, faster and better configurations than previous builds may be.
Nehalem-EX processors will be shipped in 45nm chips with 8-cores, 16 threads including Intel"s Hyper-Threading technology, Intel"s Turbo Boost technology, scalability up to eight sockets via Quick Path Interconnections, 24MB of shared cache, up to 9x the memory bandwidth of previous generations.
The new processor also supports up to 16 memory slots per processor socket, advanced RAS capabilities including MCA recovery and 2.3 billion transistors.
The amazing part about Nehalem-EX is that it can support 128 threads simultaneously without the need of third-party applications that "glue" the threads together. The new server configurations will be suited for larger, data demanding, businesses.
