With three new Windows Phone devices now out and another one on the way, it seems that people who want to get quality apps for those phones have a better chance than ever. AllThingsD.com reports that according to new surveys from Appcelerator and IDC, about 38 percent of mobile app developers said they were very interested in creating apps for Windows Phone.
Those numbers are an eight percent increase from the last surveys. More importantly, that"s a record number for Windows Phone which has to make Microsoft happy. It"s not a shock to learn that more app developers still prefer Apple"s iOS or Google"s Android operating systems as those platforms have far more users at the present time.
These new numbers are not good news for Research in Motion. The survey said that only 21 percent of mobile developers said they were interested in making apps for RIM"s Blackberry smartphones, a decrease of seven percent. It"s even worse for the company"s Blackberry Playbook tablet as the survey said that just 13 percent of app makers were interesting in making programs for the tablet"s QNX operating system.
While Microsoft clearly has a long way to go to get people to turn away from the iPhone and all those Android-based smartphones, the fact that app makers are thinking more and more about working on Windows Phone means that they see the operating system gaining traction in the smartphone market.
