Interviews: Playboy: The Mansion

"I read it for the articles." Yea, right! That excuse is used by thousands of men who need to rationalize to their suspecting wives why they read the most infamous magazine in American history. This explanation might not work anymore, though. Cyberlore and Playboy Games, a new division of Playboy dedicated to electronic entertainment, have partnered together to create Playboy: The Mansion and let players play as Hugh Hefner, the infamous bachelor in silk pajamas, and build the Playboy Empire. We hooked up with Jay Adan and Donald Case of Cyberlore for a brief tour of the game and a chance to take a quick stroll through "the" mansion.

As they loaded up the game, I asked why Playboy approached Arush and Cyberlore for their gaming debut. Mech-Warriors to Playmates is a pretty big leap for any company. Jay answered "Arush and Cyberlore have been trying to get a project going for awhile, and our technology really supports this. We did the Majesty: The Fantasy Kingdom Sim also, and although this looks nothing like Majesty" he said motioning to the screen now showing Hugh"s mansion,"The back end is the same engine, our Prometheus Engine. We upgraded from 2-D to 3-D, and that"s how the big shift in looks happened."
