Apple might be working on adding the ability to pay for items through Apple Pay by scanning QR codes. 9to5Mac claims to have spotted this capability in the latest iOS 14 developer beta released a few hours ago.
According to references found in the iOS 14 code, the feature will require users to point the camera of an iPhone at a QR code or traditional barcode to pay for items or bills using Apple"s digital wallet service. There"s no evidence, though, that this capability is working already, but an image seems to be providing a method for how it will be used. The hidden code was also found in a public system API, suggesting that the feature may support third-party apps as well.
It is, perhaps, worth noting that this is the first time that feature was seen on an iOS 14 developer beta ever since the first beta version was released last month. That said, it is still too early to say whether that capability will be making its way to a public release when iOS 14 becomes available to everyone later this year.
