Earlier this week, reports came in that a Microsoft rep had said the company was working to release iOS and Android versions of Microsoft Office for launch in March 2013. Microsoft quickly went into spin control mode, with one of their PR reps claiming that the reports were "not accurate."
Now another story says that Microsoft is indeed working on iOS and Android ports of Office, but that the target launch date is actually April 2013. WinSuperSite.com says, via unnamed sources, that the iOS and Android versions will only be made available for users who subscribe to Microsoft"s Office 365 service and not as stand alone apps.
That"s the bad news. The good news, at least according to this report, is that subscribers will have the rights to not only install Office on five Windows/Mac PCs, but also on five of the mobile devices, giving users a total of 10 product installations. Microsoft has, of course, not confirmed any of this information so take it with a grain of salt.
Microsoft did announce on Thursday that Office 2013 hit the RTM stage and will be generally available in the first quarter of 2013. WinSuperSite.com claims that the actual Office 2013 launch will be sometime at the end of January or the beginning of February.
