Apple announced the iPad 2 series more than eight years ago, and the company typically discontinues products and all related services seven years after their release. That is why the Cupertino-based tech giant has updated its list of vintage and obsolete devices to include the second-generation iPads.
The iPad 2"s addition to the list of obsolete devices, in particular, means that hardware support is no longer available for the tablet across the world. However, the device is still listed under the vintage category in Turkey and California, where hardware service will continue for the iPad 2 until 2021 per local regulations. Vintage Apple products are those that have been released more than five years ago but not more than seven years.
After March 2021, though, the iPad 2 models will be consigned to the obsolete list worldwide with no exception, cutting all types of services for the product. The device was released in March 2011 and it was officially discontinued in 2014.
Of course, iPad fans are still left with plenty of options including the latest iPad mini and iPad Air, announced in March with the A12 Bionic chipset onboard.
