When Apple released its monster financial figures for the fourth quarter of 2011 earlier this week, it revealed that it had sold over 37 million iPhone smartphones in that time period. However, Apple didn"t reveal how many of those sales were for the newly launched iPhone 4S. Now AllthingsD.com reports that according to a new survey by the by Consumer Intelligence Research Partners, the iPhone 4S was by far the most popular version of the device.
The survey results show that 89 percent of people who bought an iPhone in the fourth quarter of 2011 bought the iPhone 4S version, compared to seven percent who purchased the iPhone 4 and four percent who bought the iPhone 3GS. Apple lowered the prices of the iPhone 4 and the iPhone 3GS when the iPhone 4S came out, yet people decided they wanted the new and much more expensive iPhone 4S.
Of the people that bought the iPhone 4S, 45 percent bought the $199.99 16 GB version, while 32 percent acquired the $299.99 32 GB version. 16 percent decided to get the most expensive 64 GB version, priced at $399.99. It shows that there is a large audience for even the most pricey iPhone devices.
19 percent of all iPhone 4 users decided to upgrade to the iPhone 4S, according to the survey, and a whopping 42 percent of smartphone owners broke their existing wireless carrier contracts in order to get the new iPhone 4S.
