Launches of previous versions of the iPhone have been greeted with large crowds at times. However, the crowd of approximately 500 people waiting for the Chinese launch of the iPhone 4S at Apple"s official Beijing store today got a little rowdy. As Bloomberg reports, some members of the crowd started throwing eggs at the store after it was announced that the iPhone 4S would not go on sale after all.
MICGadget.com reports that most of the crowd at the Beijing Apple store were in fact scalpers who will likely try to turn around and sell their iPhone 4S for a lot more money. The story claims that the Beijing SWAT team was called in to help with the angry mob outside the Apple store.
Not every location in China had a crowd that was as unruly as the one in the Beijing store today. The Apple store in the Xidan neighborhood simply handed out tickets to the assembled crowd good for purchasing two iPhone 4S units. The store in Shanghai actually opened an hour earlier than planned to help out. The iPhone 4S, as we reported earlier this month, also went on sale today in 21 more countries around the world.
