The iPhone 5 will almost certainly get its official introduction on Wednesday, September 12th. The next version of Apple"s iOS smartphones will certainly have a lot of new hardware features, but one that will be welcomed by Apple fans will be the introduction of LTE network support.
At least, that"s what The Wall Street Journal, using unnamed sources, is reporting today. It says that not only will the iPhone 5 support the LTE networks that are in the US but also in Europe and Asia as well. It is currently unknown how many carriers overseas will be able to offer LTE support.
The last few versions of the iPhone have supported the slower 3G networks, but Verizon, AT&T and Sprint have all been expanding their LTE networks in the past couple of years (although Sprint is well behind its two main rivals in this regard). It would seem that the time is finally right to introduce the next iPhone that can connect to the faster networks.
Apple launched the latest version of the iPad with LTE support in March. However, the company got into some trouble when it said the iPad had "4G" support in areas of the world that did not have the correct LTE network infrastructure. Apple was forced to pay a fine in Australia earlier this year, with the courts ruling that the company deceived its customers.
