Is the Nokia Rivendale the company's next Windows Phone, Phablet or Tablet?

For the last few months we’ve been closely following the rumors on Nokia’s latest device: the Lumia 1020. Known under its codename, EOS, the 41Mpx device sparked interest across the internet and spawned a large number of rumors, leaked images, supposed launch dates and so on.

Now that the 1020 is finally hitting markets, we can collectively move on and look towards the next flagship device that’s bound to show up in coming months. And that’s exactly what we’re doing now with a new codename: Rivendale.

Some new codenames: Nokia Rivendale. HTC Z4. Amazon GLP70. Lenovo Aupres & Snoopy.

Noted leaker @evleaks, has published a list of previously unknown device codenames including the HTC Z4, the Amazon GLP70 and the Nokia Rivendale. While the previous two are very unlikely to have anything to do with Windows Phone, Nokia is certain to continue to look towards Microsoft to power its devices.

So what is the Nokia Rivendale? We honestly don’t know at this point; it could be a simple mid to low-end Windows Phone like the Lumia 625 or the very successful 520, or it could be a brand new flagship device destined to launch with Windows Phone 8.1 early next year.

There’s even a chance this isn’t a smartphone at all. Nokia has long been rumoured to be working on a Windows 8 tablet, and even though we haven’t heard anything recently this might just be it. Or maybe, this is the Windows Phone “phablet” that some folks have been anxiously waiting.

Whatever this device may be, you can be sure we’ll hear more about it in the following months; and if you want some eye candy in the meantime, why not check out our own concept of a possible Nokia Windows Tablet?
