Israeli couple name baby "Like" after Facebook inspiration

We’ve had Robin Williams call his child Zelda after Princess Zelda of the Legend of Zelda, Chris Martin of Coldplay named his kid Apple and now an Israeli couple have decided to name their baby daughter “Like.” Taking inspiration from the social network Facebook, the parents, Lior and Vardit Adler, said they came upon the name after looking for one that was “modern and innovative.”

And innovative it was, as the BBC reports Adler checked to make sure no other child in Israel was yet called Like (shocker: no-one was named Like) before naming their kid after the Facebook function that allows you to like all matter of content spewed from the mouths of your friends. Mr Adler also told Israeli media that “in our opinion it"s the modern equivalent of the name Ahava [Love] … It"s just my way of saying to my fantastic daughter, "Love".

Like’s father stated that when he announced the name and arrival of the child on Facebook, the status was liked by over 40 people – a surprisingly high number considering Adler only has just over 100 friends. Despite the fitting way to announce and appreciate the child’s new name, when she grows up to realise why she is named so strangely she will most likely be ashamed.

The Adler family’s choice of odd names appears to be a strange habit, as they apparently have also named another daughter “Pie,” as both parents enjoy cooking and obviously must enjoy pie. Dvash was also a named used, Hebrew for Honey, which is the least strange of the family’s name choices.
