It turns out that you can't delete stock iOS 10 apps after all

When Apple releases iOS 10 later this year, you"ll be able to remove stock apps from your home screen; however, it"s probably not going to save you any space. As it turns out, those apps aren"t actually getting deleted.

This is something that we discovered when we went hands-on with the first iOS 10 beta yesterday. After removing the app, you can get it back through the App Store, but you"ll notice that it doesn"t have to download anything to do it.

The news was confirmed by Craig Federighi on John Gruber"s podcast "The Talk Show". Federighi said that the software binaries need to stay as a part of the OS.

The news isn"t entirely surprising. iOS isn"t something that many people would call "modular" - something that can simply be taken apart by removing apps and still work.

Maybe someday it will be, but in the meantime, we"ll have to do what we"ve always had to do, which is to be happy with what Apple has given us.
