The day that owners of the AT&T model of the Microsoft Lumia 950 have been waiting for is now here. Double-tap to wake is finally available.
As you might expect, there"s a catch. You"ll need to grab the firmware from the Windows Device Recovery Tool, which means that you"re going to need to reset your phone. If you"re currently on the latest build from the Development Branch, 14915, you"re going to get thrown back to 10586, and then you"ll have to do an OTA to get to the Anniversary Update.
Earlier this week, Microsoft said that it wouldn"t be releasing any Insider Preview builds from the Development Branch until next week, and that if you try to add a new phone to the Insider Program, you won"t be able to get any builds until the company finishes its upgrades. Luckily, it would seem that that period has passed, as our testing shows that you can add a phone to the Fast ring and get build 14915.
In short, if you"re worried about going back to 10586 because you might not be able to get back to Redstone 2, you don"t need to be.
If this all sounds like too much of a hassle for you, that"s OK. The firmware update with double-tap to wake will be available via an OTA update soon enough. We"ve reached out to Microsoft to see if we can get a timeline of when that might happen.
