As expected, Apple has released the final version of iTunes 10.1 to the masses today. The update includes a number of bug fixes, improvements, along with both iOS 4.2 compatibility and the ability to use AirPlay to stream video to the latest version of Apple TV wirelessly.
iTunes 10.1 is required to install iOS 4.2 and with rumours abound that the release for the iPhone/iPod touch and iPad being delayed until next week, it gives users the chance to prepare for the update. Earlier this week, Apple released Mac OS X 10.6.5 which contains updates that are required for some new features in iOS 4.2, such as AirPrint support.
As Neowin reported earlier this month, iOS 4.2 is primarily aimed at bringing Apple"s iPad up to speed, features-wise, with the iPhone and iPod touch. Among the features to be added are multitasking, printing and content streaming, along with a number of cosmetic changes. Several of these features will also be added to the iPhone - excluding the iPhone 3G - and iPod touch product families.
You can download iTunes 10.1 via Software update on the Mac, Apple Software update on Windows or directly from the Apple iTunes website. The direct download weighs in at 90.6 MB while it is only 55 MB via Software update.
