Japan Display Inc. has announced the development of a seven-inch WhiteMagic WUXGA (Wide Ultra Extended Graphics Array) LCD display. The display has a resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels and features WhiteMagic technology that incorporates adding a white subpixel to the RGB pixels to better control the brightness of the LCD.
WhiteMagic display technology was first seen in Sony’s flagship handsets a couple of years ago. This will be the first time the technology is being used in a larger display with the main benefit being that it can reduce power consumption up to 40%. JDI is currently shipping samples of the seven-inch display, which would ideally be used for tablets.
