Last year, Reliance Jio announced its first feature phone, the JioPhone. This year, it is taking things a step further by announcing the JioPhone 2. The handset will offer a wealth of features including a physical QWERTY keyboard and will cost just $44.
The JioPhone 2 will feature a 2.4-inch display, 512MB RAM, and 4GB of internal storage. Those that require more space will be able to expand the memory using microSD cards up to 128GB. The phone will have a 2MP camera on the rear and 0.3MP on the front. The unit will offer support LTE, VoLTE, and VoWi-FI. The device will also offer dual SIM support and have GPS, Wi-Fi, NFC, and Bluetooth.
Since the handset will be running KaiOS, it will also have support for various apps like Facebook, YouTube, and WhatsApp. The JioPhone 2 will be available on August 15 for Rs 2,999. Those that own the current JioPhone will be able to trade up to the newer model for Rs 500 or around $7 USD.
