Stephen Fry, Simon Cowell and J.K. Rowling are just some of the celebrities who are retweeting images of missing children, in the hopes that they’ll be found. This is part of the annual “Big Tweet” campaign from the Missing People charity.
The goal of the campaign is simple: share images of missing children to as many people as possible in the hopes that someone will recognize them. Last year this campaign managed to reunite two children with their families after their images were shared tens of thousands of times around the world.
Now with the help of @stephenfry, @jk_rowling and other celebrities with millions of followers, the Missing People charity is trying to outdo last year’s efforts and have a positive impact today, which is International Missing Children’s Day.
The charity’s handle, @missingpeople, will tweet images and details of missing children every half an hour, and your simple contribution of a retweet may help reunite them with their families. For those with information there’s a toll-free number available at 116 000 (in the UK) for help, support and sharing sightings of the missing people.
The event will keep going until midnight today and as Stephen Fry put it “it is a very simple concept and there is simply no excuse not to get involved” to help ”reunite families going through the worst experience imaginable”.
