Jolla's SailFish OS may be made available on older Samsung devices soon

An engineer from Jolla tweeted earlier today that the company"s SailFish mobile OS will "soonish" be available on Samsung devices. Previously, Jolla has created successful ports of the OS for the Google Nexus 7 and Nexus 4 Android devices although neither device has launched running SailFish yet.

Now, however, Jolla appears to be targeting older Samsung handsets as the next carrier for its operating system, tweeting that it is "unwise" to exchange an old Samsung device for a new Nokia Lumia handset as SailFish will be available on the devices soon.

Maybe not wise to exchange your old Samsung to new Lumia, because you may get Sailfish OS to it soonish. My #1000 tweet ;)

No further information has been given although SailFish could be an interesting alternative to Samsung"s default TouchWiz Android skin as it allows users to run Android apps via a custom Android kernel but emphasises a clean, modern UI to enhance the user"s experience of their mobile device.

Jolla was created in 2011 by a group of ex-Nokia engineers after the failure of the Nokia MeeGo platform but the only handset to use the SailFish operating system so far has been Jolla"s own device.
