The iPhone X was announced back in September but finally made its retail debut just last week. While the experience of the handset is no doubt setting in for those that currently have one, an interesting bit of information has popped up from Apple"s Chief Design Officer Jonathan Ive, that could give details about the future of the handset.
In an interview with Wallpaper*, Ive states:
‘I’ve always been fascinated by these products that are more general purpose. What I think is remarkable about the iPhone X is that its functionality is so determined by software. And because of the fluid nature of software, this product is going to change and evolve. In 12 months’ time, this object will be able to do things that it can’t now. I think that is extraordinary. I think we will look back on it and see it as a very significant point in terms of the products we have been developing."
He goes on to state that:
"I am quite honestly more fascinated and intrigued by an object that changes its function profoundly and evolves. That is rare. That didn’t happen 50 years ago."
This is quite an interesting comment and is quite true. While it is unknown at this point what kind of things will be introduced to the iPhone X in the next 12 months, the canvas is pretty much blank, considering that there are fewer constraints placed on the device due to its buttonless form factor. While the evolution of iOS is pretty much a given, one can only dream of what Apple has in store or what Ive means when he says "this object will be able to do things that it can’t now".
