According to Ubisoft’s latest financial report, the publisher is selling considerably more digital games for Sony’s PlayStation 4 compared to the Xbox One. In fact, the PS4 is by far outselling all other platforms.
During the second quarter of 2015, Ubisoft managed to sell a number of titles, the biggest slice of which, 27%, was bought up by PlayStation 4 users. That came out on top of PC sales which ranked with 23%, and Xbox One sales which managed a meagerly 11%. An ever sadder twist for Microsoft is that the previous generation of consoles the Xbox 360 and PS3 also managed 11% of sales each.
Also noteworthy is that both the Xbox One’s and the PlayStation 4’s sales were down compared to the previous quarter, with PC sales growing quickly.
Of course, this is just one publisher with a handful of games and isn’t necessarily representative of the entire market, but even Microsoft’s can’t be happy with this results. The company has pushed Xbox very hard for the past year with permanent price cuts, bundled games, exclusive offers and so on.
More recently, Microsoft unveiled new hardware in the form of professional-style controllers and larger internal disk drives for its console. Whether these, alongside the launch of Windows 10 and its game streaming feature, will make a difference remains to be seen, but it’s obvious that, at least for now, PlayStation 4 is still winning.
