A federal jury recalculated the amount that Samsung owes Apple in their latest patent case, according to a report from Re/Code. Samsung was found to further infringe in regards to the Galaxy S2 smartphone and a patent relating to an autocorrect feature. The jury took just two hours to decide on the additional settlement, which raises the total that Samsung must pay to $123.6 million. Apple, on its part, must pay Samsung $158,400 in damages over one infringed patent.
This patent case follows the highly publicized showdown that occurred last year between the two technology giants in which Apple was awarded $1.05 billion in damages, significantly less than they estimated they were owed. In the second coming of that case, Apple had applied for over $2 billion in damages while Samsung was asking for $6.2 million.
Apple praised the decision of the jury in a statement to Re/Code saying, "We are grateful to the jury and the court for their service. Today’s ruling reinforces what courts around the world have already found: That Samsung willfully stole our ideas and copied our products. We are fighting to defend the hard work that goes into beloved products like the iPhone, which our employees devote their lives to designing and delivering for our customers."
