Nintendo has done a pretty good job of keeping its retro titles in the spotlight thanks to the sale of the NES and SNES Classic Editions. But of course, there are plenty of titles from the Nintendo vault that will never make it to the light of day, with one of those being Super Mario Bros. 4. Now, it appears that someone on Kickstarter is trying to get the game published and, at the same time, have Nintendo give its blessing to the project.
If unfamiliar, Super Mario Bros. 4 was to be a sequel to the highly regarded Super Mario Bros. 3 for the NES that, before its release, was modified and released instead as Super Mario World. As you can imagine, while there wasn"t an official release of Super Mario Bros. 4, it is still the property of Nintendo and as such makes this Kickstarter a bit strange. Taking a closer look at the videos and images, things just don"t seem to add up and it looks like others have also done some sleuthing and found that the media content in the project has been lifted from other sources.
It"s surprising that a campaign like this remains active when Nintendo is usually very aggressive about protecting its IPs. Again, you can check out the details of the project in the source but one should exercise caution about supporting it.
