Kinect sales now expected to hit 5 million by Christmas

It seems that Microsoft has now raised its sales target for their Xbox 360 motion control device Kinect. Originally the company said that they expected to sell three million devices by Christmas, but now they are stating that they expect to have Kinect in five million homes by the end of the year. According to Bloomberg tech expert Dina Bass"s twitter feed, the news came directly from Microsoft"s Don Mattrick.

If the company does manage to sell that many pieces of Kinect hardware, it will end up being the biggest Xbox based launch in the divisions history. There is no doubt that pre-release hype has been good for the Kinect as pre-orders have been selling out around the world.

At the same time, Sony’s PlayStation Move has been selling well too. Sony has sold one and a half million units in Europe and just over one million devices in America. This brings their total to over two and a half million devices shipped since launch with many more expected to sell before Christmas.

Kinect for Xbox 360 launches tomorrow in America and in Europe on November 10. The device comes bundled with Kinect Adventures.
