Nintendo today released the summer update for Kirby Star Allies, which introduces three new Dream Friends, new maps for the Guest Star ???? mode, new celebration pictures, and other improvements. The official changelog has been posted on the company"s website, but it doesn"t actually include everything that"s new in version 3.0, as some additional details have been revealed through the News section of the Nintendo Switch prior to the release.
The highlight of the update is the inclusion of three new Dream Friends: Adeleine & Ribbon - a duo present in Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards, Dark Meta Knight from Kirby and the Amazing Mirror, and Daroach from Kirby: Squeak Squad. The low amount of Dream Friends was one of the downsides we mentioned in our review of the game, so these are a welcome addition.
The new characters are playable in all of the title"s game modes, but they"re most interesting in the Guest Star ???? mode, which has also received new maps for each of the new characters to highlight their different abilities. In the case of Adeleine & Ribbon, the maps are inspired by Kirby 64, where they originally appeared, for instance.
That"s not all that"s new in this game mode, however, as some more technical improvements have been made to it as well. With the new update, you"ll be able to start an adventure with each separate friend and save your progress separately for each one. Before, it was only possible to save data for one adventure, regardless of what character you chose to play as.
Lastly, the update adds new celebration pictures to complete, which serve as an incentive for fans of the series to play through the game again. It"s not yet known if Nintendo will release any more content updates for Kirby Star Allies after this, but even the much older Mario Kart 8 Deluxe recently got some new content, so it"s certainly a possibility.
