Kmart Australia has announced that the company recently suffered a breach of its online customer ordering system. The breach occurred on the 28th of September and affects users of the online store only; in-store customers remain unaffected. The company has since reported the intrusion to both the Australian Federal Police and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.
The breach, which was reported via the company’s website, states that credit card information was not amongst the stolen data. Customer data that was taken includes customer names, email addresses, delivery and billing addresses, telephone numbers as well as details of product purchases.
“As soon as Kmart Australia was made aware of this breach, immediate action was taken to stop any further information being accessed,” a statement from the company read.
Customers that have been affected by this breach have been contacted via email. “If customers have not received a message from Kmart Australia regarding this situation they have not been impacted.”
It should be noted that Kmart Australia is independent to that of Kmart’s US operations, which were breached last year.
