LA Mayor open to Boring tunnel network

Elon Musk and the Los Angeles Mayor, Eric Garcetti, have both spoken about the possibility of bringing a Boring tunnel network to the city after holding promising talks. The Mayor said in an interview on ABC 7 that Boring tunnels could make it possible to have an express line between LAX airport and Union Station.

In a tweet, Musk stated that permits are harder than the actual technology when it comes to infrastructure. He said that he’d had “promising conversations” with the Mayor regarding a tunnel network which would transport cars, bikes and pedestrians.

Boring Co. tunnels would be used in conjunction with a high-speed sledge. Vehicles would park on the sledge above ground, which would descend underground and transport the load through the tunnel network at 125mph.

One of the aims of the company is to reduce traffic congestion by making the road network multileveled. If the network does finally find its way to Los Angeles, it could help towards addressing the city’s renowned congestion problems.

Last month, Musk said that a route would be created from LAX to Culver City and then to Santa Monica and end in Westwood. Musk claimed that the tunnel would cut the 45-minute journey into a five-minute journey.
