Latest Firefox Preview Nightly for mobile update lets you move the URL bar

In one of the latest nightly builds of Firefox Preview on Android, Mozilla has added a new option which lets you move the URL bar to the top of the app if you’re not happy with its default position at the bottom of the screen. Placing the URL bar at the bottom of browser windows is increasingly common now that more devices are around the 6-inch mark, making it difficult to reach URL bars placed at the top of the screen.

The new option is expected to ship in Firefox Preview 3.1 when Mozilla decides to push that update. In fact, it will be shipped with another feature Neowin has written about, the ability to pick custom search engines such as the tree-planting Ecosia and privacy-focused Startpage.

Switching the URL bar to the top of the browser is very simple. Just press the menu button in Firefox Preview Nightly and then go to the settings. From there, look for Toolbar, press it and select your preferred option. One thing you’ll notice is that the top bar hides itself while scrolling but the bottom one remains visible. According to Sören Hentzschel who noticed the feature, the bottom bar will also hide in a future update.

Firefox for Android, the older browser from Mozilla, is currently in a sort of maintenance mode now. Mozilla is planning to roll out a stable version of Firefox Preview sometime in the new year. As Mozilla approaches this deadline, we’ll likely see it attempt to reach feature parity with the existing browser.
