4K 60fps recording is now considered as a given on flagship Android phones. Google, however, bucked the trend and decided not to include the feature on the Pixel 4 series. The company rightfully received a lot of criticism for this, though it defended its move by claiming that most users prefer to record videos in 1080p anyway. It looks like Google has had a change of heart as a teardown of the latest Google Camera 7.4 APK extracted from the upcoming Pixel 4a points to it working on adding a new 4K@60fps recording mode to the app.
It is unclear if Google will bring this new recording mode to the Pixel 4 or not. The company could very well be preparing this mode for its upcoming Pixel 5 series that will launch later this year. Despite the APK being extracted from the upcoming Pixel 4a, that phone is unlikely to offer 4K 60fps video recording as its Snapdragon 730 chip is not powerful enough.
Back in October after the Pixel 4 launch, Google had claimed that 4K 60fps videos end up taking too much space and there were also bandwidth limitations due to which it focused on improving the quality of 1080p videos from the phone. The bandwidth limitations will likely prevent the company from bringing 4k60 video recording to the Pixel 4 lineup even if it wanted to.
