Apart from bug fixes and general tweaks, Microsoft hasn"t really showcased any new features on Insider builds for Windows 10 Mobile in a little while now. According to the Italian blog Aggiornamenti Lumia, this may be because the company is working on making changes to the update process for its mobile OS.
It would seem that the company might be working on soon releasing a build with some Redstone 2 features, bringing the Mobile arm of Windows closer to the PC version with slight changes to update settings:
- Introduced a new icon which will appear upon the completion of a new system update or request a reboot.
- Now Windows Update can be viewed in the list of applications that receive notifications.
- New entry advanced options in the upgrade menu.
The first of these is, of course, a name change from Phone update to Windows Update, similar to how it is on the desktop. Beyond that, there are mostly notification improvements with a new icon for when updates are completed and the ability to choose notification sounds and banner notifications for each individual type of update, as shown in the above pictures.
Some work still need to be done in the UI, it seems, but hopefully this will be worked out before the build is released - sometime next week, according to Aggiornamenti Lumia.
