Outlook on the web might soon be receiving some improvements relating to the Inbox. Leaked screenshots on Twitter reveal additional ‘Inbox tabs’ that segregate emails further into ‘Promotions’, ‘Newsletters’, and ‘Social’, in addition to the ‘Focused’ and ‘Other’ tabs. The tabs are similar to the ones found on Gmail on the web.
The screenshots suggest that the folders will be placed in the section that the Focused and Other folders are currently housed for those that use the focused inbox feature. These new folders do not replace the current tabs and seem to be optional, guessing from the toggles. The feature could help users segregate emails more efficiently and get rid of promotional emails without having to meticulously select them from the ‘Other’ folder.

Not much is currently known about the feature apart from the look of the tabs from the screenshots. If these capabilities will be limited to Office 365 (now called Microsoft 365 Personal/Home) is anybody’s guess. For now, though, it looks like the feature is in testing, as the toggles are not live at the time of writing. It will also be interesting to see if this feature makes it to the Outlook apps on other platforms.
What do you think of these Inbox tabs? Sound off in the comments!
