At the Develop3D Live conference in the UK, Lenovo announced the ThinkStation P320, a VR-ready workstation. As you can see from the image above, there are two different sizes: a full-size tower and a small form factor (SFF) model.
Unlike some other VR-ready machines that are geared toward gaming, the ThinkStation P320 is focused on virtual reality being used in design and engineering, as the company thinks that VR will become a "key technology" for those areas in the coming years. Virtualis, a "world-leading VR and advanced visualization company", has already been using the P320 with its VR4CAD software, saying "The ThinkStation P320’s ProVR certification, along with its performance credentials, makes it a perfect match for the Virtalis VR4CAD software. It delivers a superb balance of 3D CAD and VR performance without breaking the bank."
As far as processors go, you can choose between Intel"s seventh-generation Core i3, i5, and i7 chips, or you can go for the Xeon E3-1200 v6. The SFF model will support dual NVIDIA Quadro P1000 GPUs, and the tower can pack an Nvidia Quadro P4000.
RAM and storage options are pretty standard for a desktop, with up to 64GB 2400MHz ECC UDIMM DDR4 memory, and up to 4TB HDD or 2TB SSD. Your choice of operating systems include Ubuntu and RHEL Linux, Windows 7 Pro, and Windows 10 Pro. Note that the option for Windows 7 is interesting, as Microsoft stopped selling licenses for the OS to OEMs on October 31, 2016.
We still don"t know the pricing of the ThinkStation P320, but they"ll be available at the end of April. You can learn more here.
