Lenovo introduces a new mixed reality platform, ThinkReality

Lenovo today announced the ThinkReality Platform, its new solution for mixed reality. The firm says that it"s hardware, cloud, and environment agnostic. Alongside of the platform announcement is the ThinkReality A6, a head-mounted augmented reality display that"s meant to be used with the Platform; however, you don"t actually have to use Lenovo"s headset.

Powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 Mobile Platform and an Intel Movidius VPU, the ThinkReality A6 has a depth sensor, a 13MP RGB camera, two fish-eye lenses, and an Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU). It can be controlled with your voice, gestures, gaze control, or a controller. The screen has a 40-degree field-of-view and a 1080p resolution for each eye. Moreover, it weighs in at just 380g, so it"s easy to wear for a long time.

The headset comes with a compute unit that should be easy to carry, and that"s another reason why the headset itself can be so light. Lenovo is promising up to four hours of battery life.

The ThinkReality Platform is designed for enterprise applications, such as assisting someone remotely by placing drawings on top of the real world, or for training employees. Engineers can create things and view them in augmented reality without having to first build a physical model, drastically reducing the time to production, as well as the cost.

Being that it"s a business product, there"s no official pricing on the ThinkReality Platform or ThinkReality A6. If you want one for your business, you"ll need to contact a Lenovo sales representative.
