Lenovo posted a bulletin today, announcing that it is recalling some models of its fifth-generation ThinkPad X1 Carbon. The issue affects machine types 20HQ, 20HR, 20K3, and 20K4, and doesn"t affect devices that were manufactured on or after November 1, 2017.
The issue is that a "limited number" of these devices have an unfastened screw, which could damage the battery, causing overheating, which might be a fire hazard. Lenovo says that there have not yet been any reports of fires or damages to property. It did, however, receive three reports of an overheating issue that was due to the unfastened screw.
The firm says that it discovered the issue a few weeks ago, and is issuing the recall now because it needed time to investigate. It"s not clear why models manufactured after October aren"t affected then, and Lenovo hasn"t disclosed how much this will cost the company.
In order to find out if your device is affected, head over to Lenovo"s site and enter your machine type and serial number. If you are affected, you"ll be able to set up an appointment with the company for further inspection.
