Lenovo, currently the third biggest PC maker in the world (behind HP and Dell) has now launched its first entries in the very crowded tablet PC space. Today the company announced that it has started selling the IdeaPad Tablet K1, a consumer based tablet that is running Android 3.1. In early August it will begin selling the ThinkPad Tablet, another Android 3.1 product that"s aimed at the business market.
The IdeaPad Tablet K1, shown above, has a 10.4 inch screen, 32 GB of hard drive storage and weights less than 1.7 pounds. The tablet is powered by Nvidia"s Tegra 2 processor at 1.0 Ghz. It has both Bluebooth and WiFi wireless support, a MicroSD card reader, a mini-HDMI connection, a 5 megapixel rear camera and a 2 megapixel front camera. It"s the first Android 3.1 tablet with a Netflix streaming video app and the IdeaPad Tablet K1 also has a number of free games and apps pre-installed including Vendetta Online and others. The pricing for the tablet is $499.
On August 2, the ThinkPad Tablet will be available for sale. This business oriented tablet shares the IdeaPad Tablet"s K1 specs of a Tegra 2 processor and an Android 3.1 operating system. However the tablet comes both in 16 GB models ($479) and 32 GB models ($589 with digitizer pen). It also has features such as a full USB port, a full SD card reader and more. A version of the ThinkPad Tablet with 3G access will be released later this fall.
Also coming later this fall from Lenovo is the IdeaPad Tablet P1. This will be one of the rare tablets that will have Microsoft"s Windows 7 operating system running inside along with a 1.5 Ghz processor from Intel. Pricing for the 10.1 inch tablet has yet to be announced.
