Lenovo ThinkPad P53 unboxing and first impressions: All the power

Lenovo announced this year"s ThinkPad P-series refresh back in June, including the new P53. As usual for its mobile workstations, this one offers tons of power, with a 45W hexa-core Intel Core i7-9850H CPU (it comes with up to an Intel Xeon).

The GPU included is an Nvidia Quadro RTX 5000 with 16GB GDDR6 memory. RTX means that it supports real-time ray tracing, something that can really come in handy with complex rendering jobs. I actually noted that this was coming when I reviewed last year"s ThinkPad P52; RTX makes a big difference, and at the time, GeForce RTX GPUs were already out, and Quadro RTX was out for desktop PCs.

Another thing that"s cool about the P53 is that it"s offered with a 4K OLED display. Unfortunately, this wasn"t included in my unit, but it"s actually an option for all of the new P-series workstations that come in the 15-inch size, such as the ThinkPad P1 Gen 2. The model that Lenovo sent me includes 64GB DDR4-2666 RAM, a 1TB SSD, and a 1080p display.
